The prestigious science magazine Nature has just published an article by Michaael Eisenstein about the cancer tumour suppressing protein p53 which anyone interested in cancer suppression should read:
Nature
Meet the anti-cancer protein
p53 acts for us all as our guardian of the genetic material present in our cells, (genome), by providing important protection against cancer — when it is active, that is.
Most cancer tumour present disfunction of the protein p53. Research on this could lead ultimately lead to a major victory against a broad range of cancer tumour types.
The gene that produces p53 (known as TP53) is the most well-studied gene in the human genome, having been cited in more than 10,000 papers since its discovery in 1979.
